SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Catholic earned its second Landmark Conference victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Susquehanna on the road, 3-1. Catholic improves to 15-7 on the season, matching last year's win total.
Olivia Blondin racked up a match-high 18 kills in the victory, hitting .293 along the way and adding nine digs.
Grace Guerin hit .467 from the middle, logging eight kills and three blocks in the match.
Sydney Sheppard dished out 41 assists and
Gaby Hernandez-Ferraiuoli (19) and
Izzy Steinberg (13) combined for 32 digs to cover the Catholic defense.Â
Heather Stout's team wasted no time rebounding from a tough loss at Elizabethtown last night as they opened the match with 10 of the first 14 points. Blondin and Guerin had two kills each as Catholic built its six-point lead before Blondin's third kill of the set put Catholic ahead 15-6. Catholic led by as many as 10 in the set before
Erin Faughnan closed it out with a kill to take a 25-19 first set win.Â
Susquehanna used an 8-0 run in the second set to take a 17-8 lead before Catholic roared back to get within one after a River Hawk attack error made it 20-19. Susquehanna scored five of the final seven to even the match at 1-1.Â
Catholic led 15-9 in the third set before a four-point run made it a 10-point advantage as Guerin put down a kill to make it 19-9.
Tanya Sichling earned two of the final four points for Catholic to close out a 25-17 set win, pushing the Cardinals back ahead 2-1.Â
The Cardinals hung tough in the fourth-and-final set, fighting off multiple Susquehanna rallies, including a four-point run where the River Hawks got within a point at 19-18. Blondin racked up kills 16, 17, and 18 in the final stretch to win the fourth set 25-21 and close out the match.Â
Blondin caps off a weekend with 45 kills and a hitting percentage over .300 after a 27-kill performance last night. She sits two kills shy of 300 for the season and 10 shy of 750 for her career. Hernandez-Ferraiuoli reached 750 digs for her career on Saturday, now sitting at 755.Â
Catholic will make the short trip to Gallaudet on Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. match at The Field House.Â
