WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University men's soccer team fell to Scranton by a single goal in the Landmark Conference Semifinal on Wednesday night. 

Ciaran Corr scored the lone goal of the contest in the 54th minute, rising highest to head home a Dylan Estevez cross from the left.

The match was chippy at times with 29 total fouls being whistled and saw five yellow cards brandished. The Cardinals were able to carve out the more clear-cut opportunities but were unable to finish their chances and it ultimately came back to bite them.

After Scranton took the lead, Catholic pushed hard for an equalizer. This left the Cardinals susceptible to the counter attack and caused the game to become more wide-open, especially in the final 20 minutes.

This is when Catholic created its best chances of the match. Gordie Bernlohr fired over in the 70th minute before Darius Siahpoosh made a good run to get on the end of a low cross from the left in the 79th minute, but also shot high. Bernlohr had one last chance in the 84th minute but could not direct his back-post header on frame.

The Cardinals doubled the Royal shot total, 18-9, but were only about to put four efforts on target. Scranton scored with one of its only two shots on target.

Catholic's efforts at a Landmark Conference Championship come to an end after an incredible campaign. The Cardinals put together a perfect Landmark Conference run, with Bernlohr and Siahpoosh joint atop the league standings in goals scored. Domenic Caltabiano also leads the Landmark Conference with seven assists.

Coach Travis Beauchamp's men will now wait and hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Selection to the tournament will be announced on Monday.
