Bernlohr, Siahpoosh Score Again as Cardinals Dismantle Eagles

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Three goals in nine first-half minutes powered Catholic to a comprehensive win over Juniata on Saturday afternoon to remain perfect in Landmark Conference play.

The two leading Cardinal goal-scorers lifted Catholic to the perfect start. Darius Siahpoosh's team-leading 10th goal of the season was sandwiched in between a pair of tidy Gordie Bernlohr strikes that moved his season total to nine.

Sophomore Liam Giblin was at the heart of the attack, providing two assists on the first two Cardinal tallies. He crossed from the right to pick out Bernlohr at the back post, who finished with a brilliant cushioned volley in the 15th minute, leaving Axel Grater no chance in the Juniata net.

Just four minutes later, Giblin again delivered a pinpoint service. This time he crossed from deep, picking out Siahpoosh at the near post, whose glancing header flew by the Eagle goalkeeper to double the Cardinal advantage.

Bernlohr secured his brace shortly after, rifling in a beautiful strike from about 20 yards. Jacob Rocha played a clever ball to the top of the penalty area, and after taking one step, Bernlohr unleashed a beautifully-curled shot into the upper-right corner to extend the Catholic lead to 3-0, where it remained for the duration of the contest.

The Cardinals were dominant, outshooting the Eagles 27-2 and not allowing a Juniata shot in the second half. Senior goalkeeper Austin Coron controlled his penalty area well and looked sharp in possession as he secured the clean sheet.

Freshman substitute Diego Ortiz looked bright going forward, testing the Eagles backline and registering two shots. Lorenzo Carletti provided good minutes in a midfield role, looking especially comfortable in possession.

Catholic will now hit the road as it begins a four-game road trip. The Cardinals will face the Shoremen of Washington College on Tuesday night in what will be their final non-conference tilt of the season. Kickoff in Chestertown is scheduled for 7 p.m.
