Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Coming off a Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor, senior Molly McEvoy followed up last week's effort with another outstanding performance, scoring three goals in Catholic's 4-2 victory at Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon.
McEvoy's hat trick all came in the first half as the Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 21 minutes of the contest. In the first, McEvoy dribbled inside, took a swing, and drilled it past Mary Washington keeper Erin Roy just over six minutes into the game.
Less than 2:30 later, McEvoy did it again, this time from closer to the cage, but sliding it past the keeper nonetheless. Catholic (5-6) led 2-0 after the first with freshman Abigail Kearney making a pair of saves in the period.
McEvoy struck for a third time just over five minutes into the second quarter. After a pair of unassisted strikes, McEvoy scored her third off an assist from sophomore Niki Micciche.
Mary Washington (4-6) cut the deficit to one in the third quarter, getting goals from Emma Bernard and Paige Stewart, making it 1 3-2 game with just under five minutes left in the period.
However, the Cardinals struck back quickly, scoring just 22 second later as Micchice got on the scoresheet with a goal assisted by sophomore Allison Flynn.
McEvoy takes the team lead with seven goals and 17 points on the season with Micchice right behind her with six goals and 14 points. Kearney made eight saves, giving her 50 for the season. Kearney picks up her fourth career win.
Catholic will take a winning streak on the road to Juniata on Saturday for a Landmark Conference match set to start at 2 p.m.
