Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University men's soccer team picked up a tight 1-0 home victory over Elizabethtown on Saturday afternoon to finish the Landmark Conference regular season with a perfect 7-0 record.
With just 13 seconds remaining in the first half, Elizabethtown keeper Kelvin Del Cid took Ryan Kelly down inside the box, setting up a penalty kick for the Cardinals. Sophomore Domenic Caltabiano stepped up and calmly slotted it bottom left past a diving Del Cid to score the lone goal of the afternoon and keep the Cardinals unbeaten in the Landmark.
Caltabiano's goal was his seventh of the season. With seven goals and seven assists, Caltabiano has contributed to 14 goals, the most of the team for Catholic in 2022.
Celebrating Senior Day on Saturday afternoon, head coach Travis Beauchamp gave his eight seniors the starting nod. Troy Young earned the win in goal, playing the first 45 minutes for Catholic while Austin Coron came on for the final 45 to close things out.
The Cardinals totaled 17 shots in the game, putting five of them on target. Caltabiano registered three of the team's five shots on goal. The Blue Jays took just five shots in the contest, forcing just one save from Young in the first half.
Catholic also completed a perfect regular season in 2019 before winning the Landmark Championships vs. the Blue Jays.
As the number one seed, Catholic will host fourth-seeded Scranton on Wednesday night at Carlini Field. The Cardinals enter the Landmark Conference playoffs in search of a sixth conference championship.
