Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University men's soccer senior Darius Siahpoosh scored two goals, including the game-winner, as the Cardinals posted a 3-1 victory over Salisbury Wednesday at Carlini Field.
Catholic (4-2-0) are now unbeaten in five of its last seven against the Sea Gulls.
Siahpoosh netted his team-leading fourth and fifth goals of the season in the win, including the game-winner less than five minutes in.
The Cardinals took a quick 2-0 lead on goals from Siahpoosh and junior Jack McEvoy. McEvoy started the scoring with his first career goal just 2:25 after the opening kickoff as he converted a cross from senior Paul Egan.
Siahpoosh followed with a penalty kick strike at 4:24 before the Sea Gulls responded less than a minute later at 5:17 to cut their deficit in half.
Neither team could find the net again over the next 40 minutes as Catholic took a 2-1 lead into halftime despite being outshot, 17-7. Junior Austin Coron totaled five of his season-high six saves in the opening 45 minutes to preserve his team's one-goal advantage.
After three goals in the game's first five minutes, it took until the 83rd minute for the next one as Siahpoosh scored his second of the game, fifth of the season and 13th of his career off assists from McEvoy and sophomore Gordie Bernlohr.
For Siahpoosh, it was his second multi-goal game of the season and the fourth of his career. Meanwhile, McEvoy, who totaled the first points of his career, finished with three in his 10th career game and sixth start.
Catholic limited Salisbury to just six second-half shots while holding a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
The game, which was delayed 15 minutes due to weather, featured seven yellow cards and 22 total fouls.
The defending Landmark Conference champion Cardinals open conference play on Saturday, Sept. 25 when they welcome Moravian to Carlini Field for a 4 p.m. kickoff. Catholic is 16-3-2 in conference contests since 2017 and has won four-straight against the Greyhounds.
