Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Catholic University men's basketball sophomore Jesse Hafemeister posted his second double double of the season as the Cardinals fell to Bridgewater (Va.) Saturday at Nininger Hall, 80-75.
In the first meeting between the two teams since the 1983-84 season, Catholic (7-2) suffered its first loss in five road games this season.
Hafemeister scored a career-high 32 points to go along with 10 rebounds for his second double double in the last three games. His previous career high in points was 30 in a 58-56 victory over Moravian on Feb. 12, 2021.
Hafemeister was 12-of-22 from the floor, including 6-of-9 from three-point range. He is the second player with at least six made three-point field goals this season as sophomore Jake Timby was 6-for-10 against Messiah.
Following a three-point play by Hafemeister, the Cardinals led 64-59 with 6:19 remaining in the second half before a 7-2 run by the Eagles tied the game at 66-66 with less than five minutes to play.
It would be the first of three ties over the next two minutes, the last of which came at 71-71 with 2:36 left after a three-pointer by Hafemeister.
Bridgewater (3-6) scored nine of the final 14 points, including seven from the free throw line where it was 7-of-8 over the last 1:46.
Hafemeister scored 20 second-half points, going 5-of-6 from three-point range.
Timby finished with 16 points while freshman Justin Green had a career-high 14 rebounds.
Catholic returns home to host the DC Showcase Dec. 19-21. The team will face Washington and Lee on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m.
