Siahpoosh, Bernlohr Lead Men's Soccer to 2-1 Over Drew

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Led by its two leading scorers, the Catholic University men's soccer team posted a Landmark Conference victory over Drew Saturday at Carlini Field, 2-1.

Led by one goal each from junior Darius Siahpoosh and sophomore Gordie Bernlohr, the Cardinals (6-4-1, 2-1-0 LC) posted their fourth-straight win against the Rangers and improved their record to 5-1 at home this season.

After a scoreless first half, Drew got on the board in the 50th minute as Christian Tyson scored his third goal of the season.

Catholic would get the equalizer in the 67th minute when Siahpoosh converted a penalty kick after being taken down in the top of the box. He netted his team-leading sixth goal of the season and first since Sept. 22 after missing the last two games to injury.

The Cardinals, who outshot the Rangers 11-8 in the second half, got the game-winner off the foot of Bernlohr in the 82nd minute on the team's 18th and final shot of the game. It was Bernlohr's fifth goal of the season and second game-winner.

Siahpoosh and Bernlohr have scored 11 of the Catholic's 19 goals this season and accounted for three of the team's six game-winning goals.

Junior Austin Coron earned his fifth win of the season in goal, stopping six shots, including four in the second half.

The Cardinals host Washington College on Tuesday looking to avenge a 2-0 loss against Shoremen in 2019. Catholic has won five of the last six against the Shoremen at home. Head coach Travis Beauchamp is a 1999 graduate of Washington College and was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 12, 2013.
