Box Score HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Catholic University men's soccer senior Paul Egan scored with just 3:48 remaining in double overtime to lift the Cardinals to a 2-1 victory over Juniata Saturday.
With the win, Catholic (9-6-2, 5-1-1 LC) secured the top seed in the 2021 Landmark Conference Men's Soccer Championship which begins on Tuesday. The Cardinals will host the No. 4 seed at Carlini Field on Tuesday, Nov. 2 beginning at 7 p.m.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, junior Darius Siahpoosh tied the game in the 50th minute on a penalty kick for his team-leading ninth goal of the season. He is now a perfect 3-for-3 on penalty kicks this season.
The game remained tied at 1-1 through 90 minutes despite Catholic holding a 24-5 advantage in shots.
The Cardinals outshot the Eagles 5-0 in the first 10-minute overtime period and had three of the first four shots in the second extra frame before Egan corralled the loose ball in the box after a team save by Juniata (5-8-2, 1-4-2 LC) on a shot by sophomore Gordie Bernlohr.
The goal was Egan's fourth of the season and his second game-winner.
Catholic is now unbeaten in its last 11 overtime games, posting a 6-0-5 record dating back to a 3-2 win over Gettysburg at home on Oct. 24, 2017.
Junior Austin Coron made two saves in goal for the Cardinals to improve his record to 5-1-1 in seven conference starts with a 0.82 goals-against average and a .778 save percentage.
Official seedings, opponents and game times for the 2021 Landmark Conference Men's Soccer Championship will be announced by the league later Saturday night following the conclusion of the remaining conference contests.
