Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Catholic University baseball team scored three runs in five different innings Monday afternoon in a 16-5 win over Lehman at TicketReturn.com Field.
The Cardinals (8-5) posted their third game with at least 15 runs scored in a 20-hit effort, led by Michael Doody's four-RBI afternoon. The junior went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple to help Catholic to its third win in as many days at the Ripken Experience.
Doody drove in the first run of the game in the top of the first with a double to left field, scoring Connor Sullivan. The Cards got three across in the first frame for the lead.
Catholic repeated the sequence in the second and third innings, scoring three additional runs in each to extend the advantage to 9-0. Three straight hits from Tighe Watson, Derek Zelesnick, and Sullivan put the wheels in motion and Doody delivered with another RBI-double to left field in the second.
Sullivan's 2-for-3 afternoon extended his hitting streak to 11 games, with eight of those being multi-hit efforts.
After Watson knocked his second double of the contest in the third inning, Zelesnick got on with another single to score the team's ninth run.
Doody made it 12-0 in the fifth with his first triple of the season, scoring Billy Duke and Tommy Antonucci.
The Lightning (0-8) plated four runs in the seventh frame, but the Cardinals responded with four total runs in the eighth and ninth to maintain the healthy lead. A first-career triple from Duke drove in two runs in the ninth.
MJ Dziczkowski earned his second win of the year on the mound. He went six and a third innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits and striking out six. Austin Nappi and Duke each made their first appearances on the mound to take care of the final innings and close out the win.
The Cardinals continue their spring break trip Tuesday with a game against Penn College. First pitch is set for noon.
