Box Score

SCRANTON, Pa. - The Catholic University men's soccer team opened Landmark Conference play on the road Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 victory against Scranton.

The Cardinals (8-1-1) used two first half goals, including a first-career tally from senior defender Ryan Kennedy, to extend its unbeaten streak to nine games.

Catholic was outshot 14-13 in an intense conference matchup to start its Landmark season at 1-0. The visitors took six corner kicks compared to the Royals' three.

The Cards converted from the penalty spot to take a 1-0 lead. Penalty taker Bradley Pierro stepped up and finished the chance in the 39th minute.

Just minutes later, Catholic struck again before halftime off a corner kick. Franco Caltabiano crossed the ball into the box and Kennedy took the shot on the volley to double the lead in the 42nd minute.

In 42 games played as a central defender, this important conference goal was Kennedy's first of his career.

The Royals cut the lead in half shortly after the first half ended with a 49th minute goal, but could not find an equalizer before the final time whistle.

Junior goalkeeper Jack Long made five saves in the win, his seventh on the year.
