No. 21 Cardinals Dominate Greyhounds on Senior Day

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Six different goal scorers led the Catholic University men's soccer team in a 6-0 rout over Landmark Conference foe Moravian on Saturday afternoon at Carlini Field.

The No. 21 Cardinals (15-2-1, 6-0 LC) honored honored seniors Mike Narzikul, Mitch Ford, Tim Figueroa, Andrew Laurenzano, Ryan Kennedy, and Bradley Pierro before the match and used their help to take an early lead.

A senior goal-scoring connection gave Catholic a 1-0 advantage right away in the 7th minute. Laurenzano whipped a dangerous corner kick into the box that found Kennedy, who glanced his header into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.

Five minutes later, Pierro pounced on a deflected ball off a Moravian defender and finished with the left foot to put the Cardinals up 2-0.

The hosts outshot the Greyhounds 26-3 in the contest and did not allow a single shot on goal.

Sophomores Ben Alexander and Paul Egan then linked up for the team's third goal of the half in the 24th minute. Alexander played a short cross to Egan who flicked the ball towards goal, deflecting off a defender and trickling into the net.

Alexander played helper once again on the other side of halftime with a cross from the left side that fellow sophomore CJ Ballard hit well off the volley into the net for another goal in the 63rd minute.

Alexander now has four assists on the season and 28 total points to lead the Landmark Conference.

The Cardinals made it five with a beautiful sequence of passing resulting in a goal from freshman Jacob McDonald. Laurenzano played a pass on the left wing to JP Koshakji who squared the ball on the first touch for a tap-in goal for McDonald in the 77th minute.

Junior Franco Caltabiano put an exclamation point on the win with a rocket goal from 25 yards out thanks to a short lay-off pass from Koshakji. Caltabiano's first career tally put the Cards up 6-0 in the 82nd minute to cap the senior day victory off.

Junior goalkeeper Jack Long did not have to make a save in his 11th shutout of the season as the Cardinals' defense stifled any Moravian creativity.

Up next for Catholic is the last Landmark contest of the regular season, a match against Elizabethtown on Saturday, November 2. Kickoff for the final tune-up before the conference tournament is set for 1 p.m.
