Meszaros Nabs First Goal in 2-1 Loss to Buffalo State

FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Catholic University men's soccer team dropped its first game of the season in a 2-1 loss to Buffalo State Friday afternoon. 

Sophomore midfielder Philip Meszaros scored his first career goal for the Cardinals in the 63rd minute in game one of the Fredonia Blue Devil Classic. 

The two sides played to a scoreless draw in the first half, with the Bengals holding a 9-7 shot advantage. 

Buffalo State opened the scoring in the 57th minute with a penalty kick goal, and added a second in the 61st minute to go up 2-0. 

Meszaros cut the deficit in half just two minutes later off an assist from senior midfielder Tyler Martin, but the Cards could not find an equalizer.  Catholic took 14 shots to the Bengals' 16 in the match. 

Goalkeeper Jack Long made five saves in the contest.

The Cardinals conclude the Fredonia Blue Devil Classic against the hosts, Fredonia State, tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
