WASHINGTON, D.C. - Freshman Paul Egan's overtime winner pushed the Catholic University men's soccer team past the Washington College Shoremen 1-0 on Tuesday evening. 

Egan's 99th minute strike was the first goal in his career to make the difference in ending the scoreless stalemate, coming from a Mike Narzikul assist. 

The Cardinals (6-5) dominated possession in the contest, outshooting the Shoremen by a staggering 23-1 mark. Junior Andrew Laurenzano led with five shots, and sophomore Ben Alexander paced the team with three on target. h

Washington College (4-5-3) created just one corner kick opportunity as well, compared to Catholic's seven. 

With the big shooting advantage, the Cardinals coud not find the breakthrough in regulation, competing in their second straight overtime contest. Narzikul launched a shot just over the crossbar in the 34th minute. Sophomore Nelson Zimmerman looped a shot on target that was cleared off the line in a 64th minute Washington College defensive save. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Jack Long saved the only shot he faced, moving to 6-5 on the year with a clean sheet. 

Defenders Mitch Ford, Ryan Kennedy, and Narzikul all played more than 90 minutes to preserve the lead. 

A home Landmark Conference matchup is up next for the Cardinals, on Saturday, October 13 against Juniata at 1 p.m.
