Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America men’s soccer team recorded its second shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Thursday afternoon.
The Cardinals got off to a quick start with a header goal from rookie Nelson Zimmerman at the 10:02 mark. Zimmerman waited patiently at the top of the six-yard box as junior Tyler Martin chased the ball down the right sideline. Martin controlled it just inside the goal line and placed a seamless cross for Zimmerman to flick it inside the left post.
Thirty-seven minutes later Catholic struck again with a goal from senior Heston Priestley. From 30-yards out on the right side, junior Brian Galfond slotted a through-ball to Priestley who took crossed the ball into the back-left corner of the net with one touch.
The Cardinals and Seahawks each took 12 shots in the contest while Catholic graduate student Zachery Tashjy recorded four saves.
In its next game, Catholic kicks off against Stevenson University in the nation's capital on Saturday, September 14, at 3 p.m.
