Catholic Takes Two Versus Mt. Aloysius

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - On day six of The Catholic University of America baseball team's spring break showcase the Cardinals swept Mt. Aloysius in a doubleheader. The Cardinals captured the first win by a 10-1 score and won the second with a 4-1 advantage.

The Catholic offense registered 17 hits in game one while sophomore Ryan Tracy and junior Anthony Ferlise went 3-of-4 from behind the plate.

Freshman Cid Porter recorded the first RBI of the day, bringing home Ferlise in the second inning. Junior Alec Dolton followed with an RBI single, that scored Porter. Tracy came across the plate on an error and Dolton came home on a single from sophomore Bailey Lewis to give the Cards a four-run second inning.

Tracy drove in Ferlise in the third and Porter came home on a wild pitch to advance Catholic's lead to 6-0 in the third inning.

To secure the victory, in the sixth inning, Catholic earned four additional runs. Junior Jake Crist batted in Lewis. Crist came home when Ferlise sent a 2-RBI double down the left line which also scored junior Brennan Cotter. Ferlise scored the final run of game one with an RBI single from rookie Connor Sullivan.

Sophomore Mason Belcher earned his first win of 2017, pitching all seven innings and throwing eight strikeouts.

Five pitchers took the mound in Catholic's 4-1, game two, victory over Mt. Aloysius. Junior Jack Hennessy made the start for the Cards pitching two innings. Fellow junior Sean Carroll entered as relief and earned his first win of the season. Freshman Colin Cunningham took the rubber for an inning and threw one strikeout before seniors Jonah Jimenez and Joseph Salzano pitched the final two, respectively.

Catholic will play its final game of their Spring Break week on Saturday, March 11, versus Rutger-Newark at 12 p.m.
