Scranton, Pa., - The Catholic University of America men’s soccer team concluded its regular season with an outstanding 3-0 triumph over the University of Scranton Royals on Saturday afternoon.

Catholic got on the board quickly with a goal from junior Brian Galfond in the fifth minute. Galfond took a pass from sophomore Bradley Pierro and sent it low into the back-left corner from 25 yards out on the pitch.

Junior Aaron Boyle took his chance to advance the Catholic lead with three minutes remaining in the opening half. He took a chip from freshman Philip Meszaros and pushed the ball inside the net to give Catholic a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Galfond tallied his third point of the day in the 76^th minute when he slotted senior Nick Joesten the ball. Joesten launched a shot from the left wing into the far-right corner to record Catholic’s third and final goal of the match.

Catholic earned a 13-9 shooting advantage over Scranton. Boyle fired off four shots and Galfond totaled three.

Graduate student Zachery Tashjy earned his seventh win and fifth shutout of the season. He made six stops throughout the match including a diving save in the opening minute to keep the Royals scoreless.

The Cardinals close out their year 7-7-4 overall with a Landmark record of 4-2-1. They will travel to Elizabethtown College to face the Blue Jays in the league semifinals on Tuesday, October 31, at 7 p.m.
