Box Score WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America men's soccer team earned the win on Tuesday night at Cardinal Stadium as senior Patrick Mogan scored in the second minute of overtime to defeat Gettysburg, 3-2.
Catholic twice came back from one-goal deficits to force extra time. Mogan was able to control one from the keeper just 1:18 into the first overtime period and blasted it home for the Cardinals' sixth win of the year. Gettysburg was in the national top-25 poll up until last week and are still receiving votes as they fall to 12-4.
The Bullets struck first with a goal in the third minute. Catholic was able to lock down defensively from there with no other scores coming until 20 minutes into the second half.
The Cards got their first goal as sophomore Bradley Pierro headed home the perfect cross from junior Brian Galfond in the 67th minute.
The tie would not stand however as Gettysburg got the lead back less than two minutes later.
With the game closing to five minutes left in regulation, Galfond was able to get the equalizer as he controlled a loose ball six-yards out and floated to the top of the net for his fourth goal of the year which helped set up Mogan's heroics.
Gettysburg owned a slight shot advantage, 17-14, but the lone strike of overtime proved to be the difference.
Senior Zachery Tashjy came up with eight big saves for Catholic as he evened his record at 6-6-3.
Catholic now plays its final regular season game of the year this Saturday at Scranton with Landmark playoff implications on the line.
