Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America men’s soccer team earned a 2-1 triumph over Landmark Conference opponent Moravian College and advanced their league record to 3-1-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Catholic got things started quickly with a goal in the sixth minute. The Cardinals earned a corner kick which junior Brian Galfond served short. The ball bounced around in the right corner before sophomore Andrew Laurenzano launched a cross over the box as junior Aaron Boyle leaped into the air to head it into the back of the net.
The Greyhounds equalized on a penalty kick just four minutes later but the Cardinals first-half efforts weren’t over.
Rookie hero Nelson Zimmerman struck in the 23rd minute to record his fourth gamewinner of the season. Zimmerman fired a shot down the middle from the top of the box, after trapping a pass from sophomore Mike Narzikul, to put Catholic ahead 2-1.
Catholic had an outstanding 19-6 shooting advantage over Moravian throughout the match with Galfond taking five shots while Narzikul and senior Patrick Mogan each took three.
Junior Corbin Brailsford and sophomore Mitch Ford held down the Catholic defense for 90 minutes and allowed just three shots on goal from the Greyhounds.
The Cardinals are set to host conference opponent Drew University on Saturday, October 21 at 3:30 p.m.
