Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America men's soccer team fell to the University of Mary Washington, 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cardinals and Eagles played a scoreless first half. Mary Washington struck first in the second half with an unassisted shot at the 72:59-minute mark. Catholic, unwilling to go down without a fight, answered just 36 seconds later when sophomore Tyler Martin served the ball to senior Miguel Hernandez, who sent it into the back of the net.
With a 1-1 score at the end of regulation, Catholic and Mary Washington moved into overtime.
In the fifth minute of extra time Mary Washington notched the golden goal with an unassisted shot to secure the victory.
Senior Zachery Tashjy played all 95 minutes in the net for Catholic, making four saves. Hernandez led the Catholic offense putting two shots on goal.
The Cardinals continue their 2016 season in Pittsburgh, Pa., as they take on Kenyon College at Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, Sept. 10.
