Box Score Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Catholic University of America men's soccer team was shut out by Carnegie Mellon, 2-0, on Sunday evening.
The Tartans struck in the second minute of play to take a 1-0 advantage of the Cardinals. Just 21 minutes later they placed a header into the top corner of the net for a 2-0 lead before the conclusion of the first half.
After the halftime intermission, the Cards put a stop to the Tartans' offense and battled back outshooting them 7-3 in the second 45 minutes.
Sophomore Brian Galfond took three shots for Catholic, with two on target. Senior Steven Lukas made a season-high six saves as the Catholic goalkeeper.
The Cardinals will return to the nation's capital for their home opener Wednesday, Sept 14, versus St. Mary's (Md.) at 4 p.m.
