Box Score WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America hosted a nationally-ranked matchup on Saturday at Cardinal Stadium as the No. 19 field hockey team hosted No. 17 Rowan. The Cards rallied late getting on the board in the final five minutes, but comeback came up short, 2-1.
Rowan (2-2) controlled for most of the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the break. The Profs added a second goal at the start of the second, but from there it was all Cardinals.
Catholic kept possession for much of the final 25 minutes and finally got one back with 4:06 to play.
Junior forward Rachel Day scored her team-leading third goal of the season as she corralled a loose ball in near the cage, controlled it past the sprawling goalie and drilled it home, low and right.
The Cards continued to press, looking for the equalizer, but Rowan was able to hold off the Catholic charge.
Senior goalkeeper Analisa Scott made her first start of the season for the Cardinals and made six saves in the contest. She faced 17 shots by Rowan.
It will be a quick turnaround for Catholic as the team returns to Cardinal Stadium for its second game in 24 hours, when the Cards host Rhodes at noon.
