Emory & Henry Downs Catholic, 38-27

Box Score

WASHINGTON – Rookie defensive back Chauncey Wallace set a program record with a 100-yard interception return touchdown late at Emory & Henry but The Catholic University of America could not complete the comeback, 38-27.

The Cardinals score the first touchdown of the game on a one-yard run by senior Matt Perno and was tied at 14-all midway through the second. Two unanswered touchdowns and a field goal gave the Wasps a 31-14 lead late in the third, however.

Catholic got one back with just three minutes left in the third as senior wideout Lucas Morley caught his ODAC-leading ninth touchdown. Emory & Henry was able to answer with a touchdown pass of its own and while Wallace's 100-yar pick and score came with 3:14 left to go in regulation, the Cards could not get on the board again.

The Wasps were strong on third down, completed 9-of-18 attempts, while Catholic made 3-of-4 fourths to stay in the game.

It was the Emory & Henry offense that made the difference however, totaling 415 yards of offense, 273 coming on the ground.

Senior wide receiver Matt McMahon posted a game-high six catches and 65 yards while Morley was just behind with 60 yards. Fellow fourth-year player Billy Smith grabbed four passes for 54 yards while added a team-high 47 rushing yards.

Defensively, junior Luke Kern registered a game-high 15 tackles and had one of two Cardinal interceptions while adding a pass breakup. Junior linebacker Anthony Santo was second on the team with eight stops and added a sack for a loss of 13 yards.

Catholic wraps up the 2016 season at home next Saturday against Bridgewater at 1 p.m.
