Box Score WASHINGTON - In a hard-fought match under the lights at Cardinal Stadium, The Catholic University of America men's soccer team was downed, 3-1, by Landmark Conference opponent, Elizabethtown College.
The Cardinals battled the league-leading Blue Jays, getting on the board first in the 22nd minute and outshooting E-town 14-12 during the 90-minute contest.
In the 22nd minute, Catholic sophomore Brian Galfond captured the ball in at the top right side of the 18-yard box. Dribbling toward the left post, Galfond weaved through three Elizabethtown defensemen and fired a short-range blast into the net for a 1-0 lead.
Elizabethtown answered eight minutes later with a goal from the 2015 conference Rookie & Player of the Year, Gilbert Waso.
Tied 1-1, the Blue Jays took the lead just two minutes shy of first half conclusion. In the 43rd minute, freshman Travis Wilson got his foot on the rebound of a blocked shot and placed it between the posts for a 2-1 advantage.
Following the break, E-town's Waso chipped one more into the net, in the 72nd minute to secure the conference victory.
Catholic junior Heston Priestley took four shots within the match while Galfond took three. Senior goalkeeper Zachery Tashjy four saves.
The Cardinals will take a break from Landmark play on Monday, October 10, when the host Salisbury University at 3 p.m.
