WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America football team was topped on Saturday afternoon at Randolph-Macon in a defensive battle. Neither team scored until the third quarter, but the Yellow Jackets were able to find the endzone and held Catholic off the board, 21-0.

Catholic limited a Randolph-Macon team that has just one loss on the season scoreless through the first 35 minutes and to just one touchdown into the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals had three defensive players register at least 15 tackles as junior linebacker Anthony Santo led the charge with a game-high 17 stops. Senior backer Ross Sanford and junior safety Luke Kern posted 16 and 15, respectively. Kern also chipped in a tackle for loss and a pass breakup.

As good as Catholic's defense was, Randolph-Macon was better. The Yellow Jackets picked off three passes, two coming in the second half to help seal the win.

The defensive efforts forced 18 punts in the game, 10 coming off the foot of junior Andrew Dinardo, who totaled 429 yards. Dinardo put two inside the 20-yard line and tied his career-best punt, booting one 65 yards.

Senior wide receiver Billy Smith led the Cards' offense with seven catches and 57 yards.

The Cardinals return home next Saturday, October 29, and host Shenandoah at 1 p.m.
