Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America men's soccer team dropped their home opening match 2-1 in double overtime to Stockton College during the second annual "Turk" Emekli D.C. Classic on Friday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium. The hard fought match lasted 105:26 minutes and dropped the Cardinals to a 0-2 overall record while the Ospreys advance to 2-0 in the 2015 season.
Catholic and Stockton were evenly matched for the majority of the afternoon, with the Ospreys outshooting the Cards just 13-12 in regulation and each taking four shots in the overtime period. During the second golden goal overtime period, the Ospreys ended the game in the 106th minute with a goal off the head of freshman forward Steven Tobolski.
Catholic notched the first goal of the game 31 minutes into the first half. Sophomore forward Nick Joesten found the back of the net after senior defenseman Connor Keale crossed the ball from just outside of the 18-yard box. The Cards held onto the lead for the next 51 minutes of play until Stockton sophomore forward Alex Kourahanis snuck the ball inside the right post for the 1-1 tie. Neither team was able to convert another goal forcing the golden goal overtime periods.
Senior midfielder Tyler Zimmerman posted three shots for the Cardinals during the event while junior Ben Pesante and Joesten each took two. Junior goalkeeper Steven Lukas played the full 105:26 minutes, making five saves for the Cardinals.
The second annual "Turk" Emekli D.C. Classic will continue Saturday, with the Cardinals scheduled to take the pitch at 3:30 against Berry College.
