Catholic Defeats No. 20 Salisbury, Beauchamp Earns 100th Career Win

Box Score

Salisbury, Md. - The men's soccer team of The Catholic University of America moved their overall season record to 4-5-1 on Wednesday evening with a 1-0 victory over nationally ranked No. 20 Salisbury University. With the win, CUA head men's soccer coach Travis Beauchamp has hit the milestone of 100 career wins.

The Cardinals and Seagulls matched up evenly throughout the event, with CUA outshooting SU just 18-16. Catholic senior Tyler Zimmerman led the offense with five shots while fellow senior Ben Sykes took four.

CUA and SU found themselves in a draw through the first half and into the 55th minute of the game. Sykes saw his opportunity early in the second half firing a shot at the Seagulls keeper, Drew Staedeli. Staedeli was unable to gain control of the save as Zimmerman pressed the goalie box and got a foot on the ball, sending it into the net.

The Cardinal defense remained strong through the final thirty-five minutes to capture the team's third shutout of the season. Junior Zachery Tashjy played between the posts and made two saves.

Beauchamp, who notched his 100th career win, is in his ninth season at the helm of the CUA men's soccer team. During his tenure he has made four NCAA Tournament berths, six Landmark Conference Tournament final appearances and earned two Landmark Conference championships.

The Cardinals will return to conference play on the road at noon on Saturday, October 3, at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
