Box Score WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's soccer team notched a Landmark Conference 3-2 win over Moravian College at CUA Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. The win brings the Cardinals to 3-5-1 overall, 1-1 in the conference while the Greyhounds fall to 6-3 in the season, 1-1 in the Landmark.
The Greyhounds got off to a quick start slotting the ball in the net for a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute. Moravian continued strong outshooting CUA 6-4 in the first half.
Trailing the Greyhound 1-0 at half time, the Cards returned from the intermission forceful, outshooting Moravian 8-5 in the second 45 minutes of play and notching three goals in a four minute span.
In the 52nd minute senior Tyler Zimmerman guided the ball to sophomore Heston Priestley's foot, inside the 6-yard box, who knocked it inside the right post for Catholic's tying goal. Less than a minute later sophomore Cam Linville lobbed a pass down the field from the midline, freshman Brian Galfond connected with the ball and beat the Grehound keeper to the net for CUA's go-ahead goal.
Galfond slotted his second of the event in the 57th minute after Catholic was awarded a corner kick. Zimmerman inbounded the ball to Priestly who headed it to Galfond's foot. Galfond saw the open net and fired the shot into the back of net for the 3-1 Cardinal's lead.
The Cards kept the 3-1 advantage through the 89th minute. Moravian snuck their second shot of the event past junior Steven Lukas, bringing the final score to 3-2 in favor of Catholic.
Zimmerman, Galfond, and Priestly each took three shots throughout the match while Lukas stopped six of Moravian's shots. Senior Connor Keale made a defensive save in the 63rd minute after a Greyhounds corner kick.
Catholic will travel to Salisbury, Md., Wednesday, Sept. 30, for a midweek matchup against the Salisbury University at 4 p.m.
