Box Score Elizabethtown, Pa. - The Catholic University of America men's soccer team dropped their Landmark Conference opener, 5-2, to No. 22 Elizabethtown at Ira R. Herr Field on Saturday night. The Cardinals are now 2-5 in the 2015 season while the Blue Jays advance to 6-1 for the year.
E-town stuck first, in the seven goal match, with a goal from just outside the six yard box in the 28th minute. The Cards looked to get on the board but proved unsuccessful in the first half, reaching the 45 minute mark trailing the Blue Jays 1-0.
The Cards opened the second half with a goal in the in the 49th minute. Senior Ben Sykes crossed the ball from the right side of the field, placing at the foot of sophomore Heston Priestley. Priesley sent the pass into the net for a 1-1 tie with the nationally ranked Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays answered with three consecutive goals over a three minute time frame, including two from sophomore Steve Eneme and one off a penalty kick. With a three goal deficit CUA cut E-towns lead in half when senior Tyler Zimmerman took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity, to make the score 4-2.
Elizabethtown's Eneme sealed the win for the Blue Jays when he completed a hat trick in the 85th minutes of play, leaving the board reading 5-2 in favor of the home team when the clock reached 90 minutes.
Zimmerman led CUA's offensive efforts taking six shots with four on goal, while fellow senior Alex Laprade took two shots, one on goal. Junior goalkeeper Zachery Tashjy made six save thought the match.
Catholic will travel to the College of St. Mary's (Md.) to take on the Seahawks on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m. before returning home to continue Landmark play on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 3:30 p.m.
