Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America men's soccer team's season came to a close in the Landmark Conference Semifinals on Wednesday evening as they fell, 4-1, to the No. 6 nationally-ranked Elizabethtown College.
The Cardinals traveled to Elizabethtown Pa., and delivered a strong performance against the nationally-ranked Blue Jays, in attempt to keep their season alive. Catholic outshot Elizabethtown, 16-15, throughout the contest while junior goalkeeper Zachery Tashjy made six saves.
Senior captain Tyler Zimmerman led the CUA offense with three shots while fellow senior Ben Sykes and sophomore Heston Priestley took two shots a piece on target. Nine additional Cardinals took shots within the 90 minutes but despite their valiant efforts, the Blue Jays' senior keeper, Rodrigo Barrera, would only let one into his net.
Catholic's lone goal came in the in the 81st minute as the Cards trailed 4-0 with just nine minutes to play. Zimmerman prevented the semifinal shutout when he crossed the ball out left to freshman Corbin Brailsford. Brailsford ripped the shot passed Barrera inside the lower right corner of the net for his first career postseason goal.
Elizabethtown notched its first goal of the game in the intial half off a header from the Landmark Conference leading goal scorer, Jeff Light. The junior went on to complete a hat trick, scoring two more in the second half. Sophomore Steve Eneme rounded out the scoring for the Blue Jays with a goal in the 80th minute.
The fourth-seeded Cardinals wrap up the year in their 8th consecutive postseason run and finish their 2015 campaign with an overall 7-9-2 record. The top-seeded No. 6 Blue Jays, now 16-1-1, advance and host the conference finals on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m., versus the No. 2 seeded Scranton University.
