Box Score Huntington, Pa. - With a minute goal from senior Tyler Zimmerman in the 90th minute The Catholic University of America men's soccer team earned a 3-2 victory over Juniata College and secured the No. 4 seed in the Landmark Conference playoff. With the win the Cards finish out the regular season with 7-9-2 overall and a 4-3-1 in conference while the Eagles finish 4-13-1, 0-8.
In the evenly matched contest the Cardinals outshot the Eagles 11-10 and took a 1-0 lead the 24th minute when Zimmerman took a shot that ricocheted off the post into the net. Then minutes later, the senior assisted in the Card's second goal of the match when he served the ball to sophomore Heston Priestley for the 2-0 lead.
The Eagles would not go down without a fight, opening the second half with a goal at the 46:19 mark. 11 minutes later they notched the tying goal off a penalty kick. As the game clock was about to expire, with a playoff spot on the line, team captain Zimmerman blasted an unassisted shot into the net and the Cards came away with the 3-2 victory.
Sophomore Nick Joesten led the Cardinal offense with four shots while junior Steven Lukas made six saves between the posts.
Catholic will now head to the Landmark Conference playoffs for the eighth consecutive season. The Cardinals are the only team the 2014 conference tournament to make the 2015 post season. The semi-final match will be played on Wednesday, November 4, versus the No. 1 seed Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pa.
