Box Score WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America football team had eight more first down 15 more minutes of possession against Emory & Henry on Homecoming, but the Wasps used a strong second half and two big scoring plays in the fourth quarter to top the Cardinals, 44-24.
CUA ran 109 plays, registering 32 first downs and nearly 500 yards of total offense, keeping the ball for almost 38 minutes while building a 17-12 lead it took into the half.
While the Cards were able to move the ball, it was the Wasps that found the endzone, scoring with 46 second left at the end of the second and finding the goal line twice to open the third, including an 80-yard passing strike.
Senior quarterback T.J. Tutone completed 37 passes and found Lucas Morley 12 times and for two touchdowns. Morley finished the game 2ith 90 receiving yards.
Tutone went on add an impressive 26-yard touchdown run on fourth down in the fourth quarter making it a two-point game, 26-24, with 11:42 to go.
After a E&H field goal made it 29-24, the Cardinals were driving and poised to take the lead after driving 68 yards, including a 42-yard bomb to Nik Echeverria.
On 3-and-10, Tutone passed to the goal line and appeared to find Tim Murphy for the go-ahead score, but Wasps cornerback Tre'von Lightfoot was able to wrestle the ball away from him and streak 98-yards up the sideline to for the Emory & Henry score.
The Cards close home play next weekend on Halloween as they face Guilford at noon.
