Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America men's soccer team dropped their mid-week contest 3-1 to the Shoreman of Washington College on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss the Cardinals now hold a 5-9-2 overall record while the Shoreman advance to 9-5 for 2015.
The Cardinals took the pitch strong, outshooting the Shoreman 8-5 in the first 45 minutes. Catholic capitalized on a free kick opportunity in 37th minute to gain control of the game before the halftime break. Sophomore Cam Linnville served the free kick up the field to senior Alex Laprade. The senior blasted the ball from thirty yards outside the target into net for his first goal of the 2015 season.
Following the halftime intermission Washington College equalized the game in the 54th minute, and notched a go-ahead goal fourteen minutes later. Catholic looked to stay alive with three corner kick opportunities in the second half, but their fate was sealed when the Shoreman placed an insurance goal in the back of the net at the 84:32 minute mark.
Catholic senior Tyler Zimmerman took four shots, while fellow senior Ben Sykes and sophomore Nick Joeston each took two. Junior Zachary Tashjy made two saves throughout the competition.
The Cardinals return home Saturday, Oct. 24, for a Landmark Conference matchup against Susquehanna at 1 p.m., at CUA Soccer Field.
