Football Concludes Regular Season With Loss to Bridgewater (Va.)

WASHINGTON – With 446 yards of total offense, four touchdowns and a game-high 141 yards rushed from Jacob Wright and a 14 of 19 finish for 158 yards and one score from Ross Rushing, the Bridgewater (Va.) Eagles defeated the Catholic University Cardinals 40-13 at Cardinal Stadium for the last regular-season Old Dominion Athletic Conference game of 2014.

The loss sealed the Cards season at 3-7 overall and 1-6 in the league, as Bridgewater improved to 8-2 (5-2 ODAC).

The Eagles scored four consecutive touchdowns before the Cardinals were able to find the end zone.

BC's Wright, who recorded three consecutive touchdowns, opened his reign with an 11-yard touchdown run at the 11:54 mark of the first quarter to cap a four-play drive of 26 yards. He closed out the first frame with another 11-yard TD run, this time concluding 10 plays of 83 yards with 29 seconds remaining in the first frame for the Eagles to lead the contest 14-0.

The only touchdown of the second quarter came from Wright, as he scored on an eight-yard TD run at the 3:18 minute mark of the stanza to cap 14 plays of 90 yards, and advancing the visitor's lead to 20-0 by the half.

BC extended their dominance after the breather with a short two-yard TD scamper from Jordan Hartman with 12:13 remaining in the third.

CUA's T.J. Tutone nailed a 43-yard TD pass to Tim Murphy at the 8:44 mark of the third quarter to conclude an eight-play drive of 73 yards in the third stanza to snap the Eagles' run for a score of 26-6 in favor of Bridgewater.

BC answered back with its first through the air touchdown of the day, as Rushing connected with Zane Grudzinski from five yards out to cap a five-play drive of 75 yards.

Catholic's Tutone made another passing connection for a touchdown, this time connecting with Jeremy McGriff for a 10-yard TD pass at the 14:18 mark of the fourth quarter with Cardinals trailing 33-13.

Bridgewater's Wright wrapped the afternoon with the longest touchdown run of the game with a 36 yard TD run with 12:08 remaining for a final score of 40-13.

The Cardinals put together 346 yards of total offense, with 249 yards through the air and 97 on the ground. Matt Perno caught five passes for 43 yards, while Evan Calvo caught four passes for another 43 yards and McGriff also collected four passes for 27 yards and one score.

Defensively, CUA's Patrick Thomas registered 10 tackles, as Anthony Santo and R.J. Allison made five tackles apiece on their own.

CUA returns to Cardinal Stadium next season.
