Box Score TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University of America men's soccer team walked away from Goucher College with a 1-0 win on Wednesday.
The win improves the Cardinals record to 6-5-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the conference, as the Gophers falls to 5-5-0 overall (1-2-0 conference).
After the first 45 minutes of play the both teams were evenly matched. Both CUA and GC earned two corner kick attempts and took three shots on goal.
Catholic's Heston Priestley, Ben Sykes, and Ben Fleri made shot attempts to get on the scoreboard, but were shut down by Goucher's goalkeeper Nicholas Stolarz.
CUA's Torsten Meushke also made crucial stops, leaving the game scoreless at the halftime intermission.
Catholic took a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute. Jon Paciorek crossed the ball to Tyler Zimmerman, who fired a shot past Stolarz into the right corner of the net.
Goucher tried to battle back, taking three consecutive shots at the 82nd minutes. The Catholic defense held strong with Meushke making a save followed by two defensive saves.
The Cardinals outshot the Gophers 11-9, as Zimmerman led the offensive effort with three shots.
Meushke went on to finish with five save to record the win.
The CUA men's soccer team with travel to Drew College on Saturday, October 11 for a Landmark Conference matchup at 1:00 p.m.
