WASHINGTON – The Cardinals will head into spring break unbeaten after CUA shutout Messiah (0-3) 6-0 on Thursday afternoon at Talbot Field. The Cards (5-0) plated five in the 2nd inning and Robin Mowatt went five innings on the mound to help lead CUA to its fifth straight win.

CUA jumped all over the Falcons in the 2nd inning, pushing five runs across.

Two batters were hit by pitches and a third walked to load the bases, before Mike McFarland drove in the first run with a single.

A bases loaded walk to Dan Hinchcliff then forced in run number-two.

Brendan Breslin was next and he reached on a fielder's choice, and on the same play, a Messiah error allowed McFarland and Wes Stonelake to score, which made it 4-0.

Nick Clary then continued his strong start to 2013, doubling home Breslin.

The Cards threatened in the 4th, with the first two batters reaching. Messiah was able to retire the next three Cards in order however, and the inning was over.

CUA tacked on an insurance run in the 8th, with John Palladino scoring on an Eagles error to set the final margin at six.

Mowatt went five innings to earn the win, striking out two and not allowing any runs.

Kevin Farley, Rob Steinkopf, Colin Kelly and Brian Cahill then pitched one inning apiece to help CUA earn the win.

Russell Woleslagel suffered the loss for the Falcons, allowing three earned runs in two innings.

CUA spread the offense around, with six different Cardinals registering hits, and six Cards driving in runs.

CUA now heads to South Carolina for its annual spring break trip. The Cardinals will face Mt. Aloysius on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
