Catholic Concludes Regular Season with Highest Winning Percentage Since 2008

WASHINGTON – The Catholic football team recorded its best regular-season finish above .500 since 2008 with a 42-19 victory over Bridgewater (Va.) on Saturday in Bridgewater, Va.

The Cardinals end the regular season with an overall record of 6-4 (.600) and 3-4 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play, while the Eagles end the season at 4-6 overall and 1-6 in the conference.

With 232 yards on the ground and 237 in the air, CUA put forth their most even offensive effort this season.

Mike Pitsenberger finished the gridiron contest with 129 rushing yards and a long 39-yard run.  E.J. Montgomery went 10-of-15 without an interception with 166 yards and a long pass of 36 yards.  Andrew Ouellette caught a team-high eight passes for 128 yards.

Defensively, R.J. Allison led with eight tackles, while Ralph Martello added 6.5 tackles and Richard Roach tallied six tackles.

To reach the 23-point victory, TJ Tutone connected with Alex Evans 17 yards out for the first touchdown of the afternoon.  Montgomery added another touchdown to the statistics when he threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Tim Murphy for a first half 14-3 lead.

Cardinal running back Pitsenberger obtained the first rushing touchdown with a four-yard run in the third quarter.

Bridgewater recorded their first touchdown when Nick Wimer reached the end zone on a 1-yard run in three plays and 59 yards.

Catholic's Andrew Oullette closed out the third quarter with a score of 21-10 on 25-yard catch from Montgomery.

CUA extended the lead on two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.  Ben Powers scored on 45-yard kickoff return, as Pitsenberger scored on a 1-yard run.

The Eagles concluded the contest with a 3-yard run touchdown by Willie Logan.  BC then went for the two-point conversion at the 5:20 mark.  Logan's pass attempt failed and on their final possession the host birds could not pass the line of scrimmage.

Bridgewater finished with 161 rushing yards and 153 yards of passing.  Logan led the rushing and passing effort with 73 yards on the ground and 153 yards in the air (14-52-2).  Wimer caught three passes for five yards.  Sonny Romine recorded 10 tackles on the defensive side of the ball.
