CUA earns first point in conference after scoreless tie with Crusaders

Box Score

WASHINGTON – CUA picked up its first point in the Landmark Conference on Saturday after the Cardinals and Susquehanna tied 0-0 in double overtime.  Freshman Lexi Halperin had a strong day in goal for CUA, sending back 11 Crusader shots.

CUA's first shot of the afternoon came from Kelly Henderson 2:46 into the match, but Cameron Weaver made the save for Susquehanna.

Back-to-back shots by the Crusaders near the 12-minute mark were both stopped by Halperin as both teams continued to search for the first goal.

CUA's Mary McGann put a corner kick into play at the 35:59 mark, and 31 seconds later, she got off a shot, but it was high.

The Cardinals were able to get off two more shots before halftime, but Weaver made the save on both.

Early in the second, Kirsten Wosleger looked to put CUA on the board, but her shot hit the post, and things remained scoreless.

Another shot from Wosleger, this one coming at the 55:56 mark, was saved by Weaver, keeping the match scoreless.

The shots kept coming for CUA, with three in a span of less than two minutes near the 64-minute mark, but one was saved and the other two were off the mark.

Wosleger took the final shot of regulation, but Weaver made the save, sending the teams into overtime.

Susquehanna's Alexandra Mason took the first shot of the opening OT session, but Halperin was right there for the save.

Soon after, CUA's Mara Yanni got off a shot, but it went wide.

Those wound up being the only two shots of the first OT.

In the second overtime, CUA's Kiersten Gault took a shot two minutes in, but it went wide.  One minute later, Regina Zolbrod looked for the game-winner, but her attempt was high.

Kate Masson then took the final shot of the day with under two minutes on the clock, but her shot went wide.

CUA finished with a 21-13 advantage in shots, including 3-0 in the second OT, and the Cardinals were awarded five of the nine corner kicks.

Halperin sent back 11 shots to register her second shutout of the year, while Weaver made eight saves for the Crusaders.

CUA returns to the pitch on Thursday when the Cardinals play host to Rutgers-Camden.  Start time is set for 4 p.m.
