Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The Cardinals kept rolling on Saturday,
earning their fifth straight win with a 1-0 shutout of Drew.
CUA has won four straight by way of shutout and will enter the
Landmark Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed. Senior Mike
Brennan netted the game-winner for the Cards in the 54th
minute.
There were few shots during the early going, but 20 minutes in,
Drew was able to get off four attempts in less than a minute.
Two were blocked, one was saved and the other sailed wide.
Ten minutes later, Drew took three consecutive shots, but Torsten
Meuschke stopped one, and the other two were off the mark.
Early in the second half, Brennan took a nice pass from Ian Smith
and beat Drew goalkeeper Michael Reyes for the lone goal of the
day.
The Cardinal defense was very strong after halftime, holding the
Rangers to just six shots in the second half, including two
stretches of more than 10 minutes.
Drew took more shots than the Cards on the day, finishing with a
15-7 edge, while the Rangers were awarded two of the three corner
kicks.
Meuschke finished with four saves to earn the win in goal for
CUA.
CUA will now host third-seeded Scranton in the semifinals of the
Landmark Conference Tournament on Wednesday, October 31.
Start time is set for 3 p.m.
The winner will then take on the winner of the Susquehanna-Drew
semifinal, on Saturday, November 3.
