Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. – A pair of goals in the opening 12
minutes proved to be all that CUA needed on Wednesday when the
Cardinals defeated Shenandoah on the road. CUA added an early
second half tally for the final 3-0 score and improves to 2-1 on
the season. Ben Fernandez, Earl Hamilton and Mike DiMarco
scored for the Cardinals.
CUA went right to work looking to score early, with Alex Sagastume
taking a shot just 39 seconds into the match that sailed
high. The Cardinals next shot was taken by Fernandez and
found the back of the net for a 1-0 CUA lead. Sagastume
assisted on the score.
25 seconds later, Hamilton made it 2-0 Cardinals when DiMarco fed
him for a goal. The CUA defense then went to work, holding
Shenandoah to a single shot for the remainder of the half.
36 seconds into the second half, DiMarco got into the scoring act
when he found the back of the net for a 3-0 Cardinals lead.
That was all the offense CUA needed as it won its second
consecutive match.
CUA out shot the Hornets 18-3, including a 10-2 margin in the
first 45 minutes, and the Cardinals won the corner kick battle,
4-3. Shenadoah's keeper James Dutcher stopped five
shots, while Sean Libby sent back one for the Cardinals.
CUA is back in action on Saturday evening when the Cardinals
remain on the road to face the nation's No. 1 ranked team,
Messiah. Action gets underway beginning at 7 p.m.
