Peter Donley recently completed his second season as the Catholic University head coach in 2025 after he was announced as the third head coach in Catholic men's lacrosse history on July 18, 2023.Â
The Cardinals posted a 9-10 record in 2025, going 6-3 in Landmark Conference play. Catholic earned the number-four seed in the Landmark Tournament and defeated Moravian in the First Round before falling to top-seeded Scranton in the semifinals. Four Cardinals earned All-Landmark honors, topped by Victor Rosado who was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year. Rosado scored 39 goals, handed out a single-season record 37 assists, and totaled a single-season record 76 points to pace the Cardinals. Mike Tayloe, another program-record holder, joined Rosado on the All-Landmark First Team after causing 29 turnovers and picking up 55 ground balls. Ryan Macksoud was named to the second team after winning a program-record 274 face-offs. Matt Ford earned Honorable Mention honors as a long-stick midfielder with 10 goals, four assists, 10 caused turnovers, and 25 ground balls. Rosado was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the USILA.Â
In year one under Coach Donley, the Cardinals posted a 10-9 record, going 5-4 in Landmark Conference play and earning their way into the Landmark Tournament. As the number four seed, Catholic defeated Moravian 13-5 to advance to the Landmark Semifinals where they fell to Elizabethtown, 17-8. The Cardinals ripped off a five-game winning streak between March 9 and March 23 during the campaign. Four Cardinals were named to the All-Landmark team under Donley's leadership including Ryan Macksoud who earned a spot on the first team.Â
Donley comes to D.C. after an impressive career as an assistant coach across the ranks of collegiate lacrosse. Most recently, Donley served as the Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach at Roanoke College under legendary lacrosse coach Bill Pilat. Donley served as the Defensive and Faceoff Unit Coordinator and held the Recruiting Coordinator title.Â
During Donley's two seasons at Roanoke, the Maroons compiled a 24-15 record, including a 13-7 season in 2022 that saw them reach the NCAA Tournament. Six Maroons were named USILA DIII Men's Lacrosse All-Americans during his tenure.Â
Prior to joining the staff at Roanoke, Donley worked as a Volunteer Assistant at Penn State under Jeff Tambroni. The Nittany Lions went 9-9 during the two COVID-shortened seasons, ranking as high as #7 in the polls during Donley's time in Happy Valley. Working with the Faceoff unit, Donley helped coach the group to the top faceoff percentage in the Big Ten in 2021.Â
Donley has also made stops at Dickinson and Illinois Wesleyan, working under Dave Webster at Dickinson for three seasons. The Red Devils went 40-14 in Donley's three seasons, garnering a ranking inside the top 10 in 2018 and reaching the Elite Eight.Â
No stranger to the Landmark Conference, Donley graduated from Susquehanna in 2014, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He also earned a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Recreation from Illinois State in 2016.Â
