Allen is in his third season as an assistant track & field coach at Catholic in 2022-23 working as a sprint development coach.
In his first year, Allen mentored Robert Novak who earned All-Landmark Conference First Team honors after placing first in the 400 meters at the 2020 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a career-best time of 49.40 seconds. On the women's side, Ellie Bixenman received Rookie of the Year honors, becoming the second Cardinal and first since 2010 to do so. She broke two school records in the 100 and 200 meters at conference championships, earning a bronze medal in both with times of 12.76 and 25.91 seconds, respectively.
Prior to Catholic, Allen spent 11 years as a track & field coach at local high schools, including McKinley Tech, Anacostia, Coolidge and Ballou.
Allen was the sprint development coach at McKinley from 2015-19. During his tenure, the Tech boys won the 2018 DCIAA outdoor championship, the team's first in 40 years. In addition, McKinley boasted the DCIAA Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2018, had 10 All-Met performers and four DCSAA record holders. In 2018, Tech had the New Balance national champion in the girls 4x200 meter relay and the runner up in the girls 4x100. They also had a finalist at the 2018 Penn Relays.
From 2013-15, Allen spent two years as the head boys track & field coach at Anacostia where the team improved from 10th at the state championships to fourth.
Before his second stint at Anacostia, Allen was the head coach for the boys track & field team at Coolidge from 2009-11. He led the Colts to first place at the 2009 DCIAA indoor and 2010 DCIAA outdoor championships. The team boasted six high school All-Americans, three all-district and two All-Met selections. In 2009, Coolidge was champion of the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation (NSAF), had the NSAF national champion in the 4x200 meter relay and the record holder in the 55-meter hurdles.
Two years later, the Colts had the top-ranked hurdler in the United States and the first D.C. athlete to compete in Japan.
Allen's first head coaching position came at Ballou from 2007-09. The Knights finished first at the 2009 DCIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and finished second at the 2008 and 2009 indoor championships. The team's 4x100 meter relay team was also a finalist at the 2009 Penn Relays.
A 2005 graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a degree in business administration, Allen began his coaching career as an assistant at Anacostia in 2006-07 where the Indian women won the 2007 DCIAA outdoor championship and the men finished second.
Allen, who also works as a developmental coach for United Youth Developmental Club and DC International Elite Club, currently resides in Washington, D.C. and received his USATF Level 1 certification in 2014 and USATF Level 2 certification in 2020. He also has USATF International Credentials.Â
