Erin Murphy joins the Catholic women's lacrosse coaching staff as the first full-time assistant in program history as of July 15, 2024. Murphy comes to D.C. after spending six years at Averett University where she served as both an assistant and head coach.Â
Murphy was named the head coach of Averett in the summer of 2022 and commanded the Cougars to a 13-15 record in her two seasons at the helm. In her first full season as head coach, Averett posted a record of 9-5, starting 7-0 and reached the ODAC Tournament before falling in a tight contest to Bridgewater College. Under Murphy's leadership Elizabeth Peasley and Faith Bowlin earned All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Second Team honors in 2023.Â
Prior to being named head coach, Murphy served as an assistant coach in the program from 2017-2022 as the program restarted in 2018 after an 11-year absence. The highlights include a 2019 season that saw the team post a record of 14-5, reaching the USA South Conference Championship game.Â
As a player, Murphy was an All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team selection at Division II Wingate after a 35-goal, seven-assist season in 2015. Murphy was named the first-ever captain in the history of the program and served in that role in both 2015 and 2016. Prior to joining the Bulldogs, Murphy started her collegiate career at Division I Presbyterian.Â
Murphy is a graduate of Wingate University ('16) with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She earned a Master of Business Administration from Averett in 2019.Â
