Sophie Maccarone was named the first full-time head coach of the Catholic softball program effective July 17, 2023.

Maccorone recently finished her second season as the head coach of Catholic softball and built off a strong first season with the first 30 win season in program history, finishing 31-12 and making it to the Landmark Conference championship series. The Cardinals ended the regular season by sweeping No. 13 Moravian for the first time in program history to lock up the number two seed in the conference tournament. Catholic knocked off third-seeded Susquehanna to advance to the championship before dropping both games to the top seeded Greyhounds. The Cardinals had a program record seven players make the All-Landmark Team including the conference Rookie of the Year Sophia Colangelo.

The 2024 season proved to be a massive success as the Cardinals matched the program records for wins in a season with 28. Maccarone's team finished 10-6 in the Landmark Conference, earning the #2 seed in the Landmark Tournament. The Cardinals defeated #3 Juniata in the opening game before falling to #1 Moravian and #5 Lycoming. Maccarone saw a pair of Cardinals earn All-Region honors while four student-athletes were represented on All-Landmark teams.

Maccarone ('21) is a graduate of Catholic University and a former four-year member of the softball program. Maccarone spent 2022-23 as the program's Graduate Assistant Coach, helping the team to a 23-17 record. The Cardinals reached the Landmark Conference Tournament as the number three seed after sweeping Juniata in the final doubleheader of the regular season.

A former outfielder herself, Maccarone helped oversee a group that had all three starters earn All-Landmark honors in 2023. Catholic had a program-record seven players named to the All-Landmark Conference Teams in 2023.

A Haddonfield, N.J. native, Maccarone appeared in 77 games as a player for Catholic from 2018-2021 with two of her seasons shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. At Haddonfield Memorial, she was a standout in three sports: softball, soccer, and basketball, serving as a team captain in each sport.

Aside from her work at Catholic, Maccarone has served as the Head Softball Instructor, Softball Coordinator, and Strength and Conditioning Coach at Bradley Baseball Academia in Reston, Va., an Operations Event Staff member for the D.C. United, and as a Graduate Marketing Intern in the American University Athletic Department.
