Alvarado enters his second season as an assistant coach in cross country and track & field at Catholic in 2022-23 after spending the last two years as the head coach of cross country and track & field at Howard Community College.

Alvarado led the Dragons track & field teams to a record 57 NJCAA Division III All-American awards at the 2021 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships and 12 individual national championships, six men and six women. In addition, the team boasted the men's and women's Field Athlete of the Year as the men finished second and the women placed third.

A year earlier, Alvarado was responsible for the school's first NJCAA national champion in the men's decathlon and the first female to score and earn All-America status at the 2020 NJCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. He also led the men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the 2019 NJCAA Division III Cross Country Championships which was the highest finish in program history and was named the NJCAA Division III East Region Coach of the Year. A total of four athletes earned All America status in cross country and track & field.

Prior to Howard CC, Alvarado served as head coach of the girls cross country and track & field programs at Atholton High School for seven years from 2012-19. During that time, he led the girls indoor and outdoor track & field teams to one state championship outdoors in 2018 and five county championships while mentoring 10 state, 25 regional and 30 county individual champions. His athletes set five county records, garnered 15 all-county, three Howard County Athlete of the Year and one Baltimore Sun All-Metro Athlete of the Year selections.

In cross country, Alvarado led the Raiders to three-straight state championship appearances.

Alvarado also coached a US Paralympic wheelchair athlete that placed third at the US Paralympic Track & Field Championships in the 400 meters and earned a national "B" standard in the 200 meters in 2014.

A native of Glendale, Calif., Alvarado went to Glendale Community College where he was a four-time California Junior College All-American, including twice in cross country, once in the 800 meters and once in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, before finishing his career at the University of Utah in 2003.

Alvarado currently resides in Columbia, Md. and is USATF Level 1 and USTFCCCA Level 1 certified.
