Katie O'Driscoll

O'Driscoll recently completed her seventh season as the varsity men's and women's rowing coach at Catholic in 2024-25. She came to Catholic from nearby Fairfax, Virginia where she served as an assistant coach at George Mason for three seasons.

Catholic closed out a strong 2024-25 campaign under O'Driscoll's watch, winning gold in the Division III Grand Final at the Dad Vail Regatta in May. O'Driscoll's Varsity Eight boat consisting of Katherine Hourani, Bridget Robben, Claudia Hindley, Anne Mountcastle, Lauren McGinn, Katherine Elizabeth Ma, Ellie Tynan, Charlotte Fritz, and Abigail Harris clocked a time of 7:07.081 to edge out Bryn Mawr by more than five seconds to win gold. Catholic also won a pair of medals at MARC's, taking home a silver medal in the Varsity 4+ with a time of 9:14.17 while the Cardinals finished third in the Varsity 8+ with a time of 7:30.16. The Varsity 4+ silver medal group consisted of Sadie Mattaliano, Madelyn Smith, Madelyn Bronson, Natalia Pardo-Neira, and Sabrina Apelian.

During the 2025 spring, Catholic also claimed a V8+ victory at the Knecht Cup and three victories at the Battle on the Brigantine. O'Driscoll's Varsity 8+ boat was named MARC Crew of the Week after their performance at the Battle at Brigantine. Mountcastle and Fritz earned First Team All-MARC honors while Robben (2nd Team) and Pardo-Neira (Novice) were also honored.

Under her leadership and the day-to-day guidance of men's coach Declan Waters, the men's program placed a V4+ boat fourth in Final 6 at IRA's after a strong showing at the Dad Vail Regatta. The Cardinals were ranked as high as #13 in the IRCA/IRA poll early in the season.

Fritz and Mountcastle both were named All-Americans in 2025, marking the first year ever that Catholic had two All-America honorees in rowing.

In March, O'Driscoll completed a USRowing Certification Course, making her a Level 3 High-Performance Coach. She is one of just 16 coaches to graduate from the course this year.

A Division III rower herself, O'Driscoll went from a freshman walk-on at Ithaca College to a captain and All-American by her senior season. She graduated from Ithaca with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism in 2009. As a student-athlete, she was part of three NCAA appearances in the varsity eight, was a four-year CRCA Scholar-Athlete and a first-team Pocock All-American.

At George Mason, O'Driscoll was responsible for recruitment and development of walk-on talent and was the lead recruiter for West Coast, Northeast, Mid-West, Florida and Texas recruiting bases. She also assisted the head coach in writing and implementing of training plans, in addition to the overhauling of positive nutrition plans for races and training camps.

Prior to Mason, O'Driscoll spent two seasons at Division I national powerhouse, the University of Washington. While in Spokane, she was the primary coach for the second and third freshman boats and the fifth varsity boat and helped guide the novice to undefeated seasons and two Pac-12 Championships. Additionally, she developed a new strength training program for the freshmen and organized Junior Day recruiting events and home regattas.

O'Driscoll also served as the head coach of the U.S. Rowing Junior Sculling Development Camp at the Seattle Rowing Center where she led the development of 47 junior men and women scullers in 1xs, 2xs and 4xs.

Prior Washington, O'Driscoll was the novice coach at The Winsor School in Boston, Mass., where she taught novice rowers the fundamentals of the sport.

In 2012, O'Driscoll was part of a small group of coaches to be awarded a fellowship in the inaugural postgraduate program at the Institute for Rowing Leadership, a year-long coaching education program specifically designed to train rowing coaches. The fellows at the IRL were instructed by professors from Boston University, Northeastern and Harvard in courses related to managing a rowing program from top to bottom.

O'Driscoll and her husband, Erik, reside in Takoma Park, Md.
