Class of 1985 (Inducted June 8, 1985)

Andrew Balint '56 - Men's Basketball, Baseball
A star in both baseball and basketball, he lettered in both sports in each of his four years at Catholic. In his senior year, he was chosen captain of the basketball team and captain and starting pitcher of the baseball team. In recognition of his four years of outstanding service to the University as a scholar, an athlete, and a gentleman, Balint was awarded the 1956 Harris Cup trophy, the most coveted athletic award CUA offers its graduating seniors. Balint was a four-year member of the basketball and baseball team.



Robert Comstock '58 - Men's Basketball, Baseball, Men's Track & Field
Distinguished himself in basketball, indoor and outdoor track and baseball. Was the last three-letter man at Catholic for three decades, lettering in all three sports in the same year. Comstock was a four-year member of the basketball and track team. He also partiipated in basktball his sophomore, junior and senior year. 


 
Thomas Cronin '50 - Men's Cross Country, Boxing
Cronin was captain of the boxing team and won the Eastern Intercollegiate Championship in 1949. He was a four-year member of the boxing team.

 

Joseph Della Ratta '53 - Men's Basketball, Baseball, Men's Track & Field, Boxing
The last man to earn letters in four sports, Della Ratta was captain of the basketball team as a junior and president of his senior class. He scored 1,093 points, making him the first in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark. In recognition of his four years of outstanding service to the University as a scholar, an athlete, and a gentleman, Della Ratta was awarded the 1953 Harris Cup trophy, the most coveted athletic award CUA offers its graduating seniors. He was a four-year member of the basketball and baseball team. He also particpiated in track his junior and senior year, as well as boxing his senior year. 

 

William Dorasavage '41 - Men's Tennis, Men's Tennis Coach
Dorasavage helped reinstate tennis at Catholic University while a student with the help of Athletic Director Arthur "Dutch" Bergman and was named captain and coach. He later went on to coach soccer and had 11 consecutive winning years as tennis coach from 1948-58. Dorasavage was a four-year member of the tennis team.

 

William Ennis '51 - Football, Boxing, Men's Track & Field
Bucky Ennis distinguished himself as one of the university's most valuable athletes. For four years he excelled in both football and boxing, winning varsity letters for three years in each sport. A halfback speedster on the football team, he was its most consistent ground gainer, while in the ring, his combination of quickness and strength took him to the semifinals of the Eastern Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

A tenacious competitor, Ennis was good-natured and studious. This combination of qualities earned him the coveted Harris Cup award in 1951, in recognition of his four years of outstanding service to the University as a scholar, an athlete, and a gentleman. Ennis was a four-year member of the boxing and football team. He also participated in track his junior year.


 
Dorsey Griffith - Men's Track & Field Coach
Griffith was track coach at Catholic from 1928 until 1958 and never finished lower than third in the Mason-Dixon Conference for a 19-year span, finishing first five times. The team won 81 individual championships during that time, 27 more than the nearest competitor. Griffith was instrumental in the formation of the Mason-Dixon Conference.

 
Joseph Guyon '40 - Men's Basketball, Football, Baseball
Guyon played halfback on the 1940 Sun Bowl team, although injuries cut short his basketball and baseball career. Ironically, Guyon went on to become a doctor, specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He was a four-year member of the football team. He also participated in baseball his freshman year, as well as basketball his sophomore and junior year.

 

John Hartke '27 – Baseball
As a member of Charles Moran's baseball team, Hartke was one of the top shortstops in the region, maintaining a .350 batting average as well as a slick glove defensively. Upon graduation, Hartke was offered a tryout with the Washington Senators, but declined the offer to pursue his engineering career. The Raymond A. DuFour Center stands near one of the bridges he designed, the Taylor Street Bridge. Harke was a four-year member of the baseball team.

 

William O'Connell '49 - Men's Basketball, Baseball
"Okey" O'Connell was best known as a long ball hitter on the baseball diamond. In recognition of his four years of outstanding service to the University as a scholar, an athlete, and a gentleman, O'Connell was awarded the 1949 Harris Cup trophy, the most coveted athletic award CUA offers its graduating seniors.


 
Michael Shortley '17 - Men's Basketball, Football, Baseball, Men's Track & Field
Shortley quarterbacked the football team while at Catholic University, was named All-South quarterback in 1915 and captained the All-South Atlantic football teams. He was a four-year member of the football team. He also participated in baseball, basketball, and track throughout his time.
