Begg and Davenport Highlight Second Place Finish at Cardinal Fall Classic

HAGERSTOWN, Md.  – The Catholic men's golf team completed its weekend at the Cardinal Fall Classic on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals improved their team score by eight strokes from round one, shooting a 297 to finish in second place out of the nine teams. The team shot a 602 over the two rounds which is the ninth-best two round performance in a tournament in program history.

Matthew Begg continued his steady play throughout the weekend on Sunday as he shot a 73 to be the top Catholic player on the leader board in third place. He knocked in four birdies during his second round on holes one, three, 13 and 18 which was the most for the team during the round. 

Connor Desjardins put together the best round for the Cardinals on Sunday as he shot a 72 to jump 10 spots up the leader board to finish in a tie for fifth place on the weekend. He had multiple stretches of five consecutive pars during his round and also added three birdies on the back nine on 10, 16 and 18. Julio Rodas-Rhim also had a strong round with a 74 as he shot an impressive 34 on the front nine with three birdies and five pars. He also jumped up in the standings seven spots to finish in a tie for eighth on the weekend.

Timothy Cleary shot a 78 and went on a streak on holes 13-18 where he tallied two birdies and four pars. He also had four consecutive pars on the front nine. Joe Earley shot an 84 where he had nine pars and a birdie.

Jack Davenport competed on the 'B' team and wound up finishing on top of the standings after shooting a 73. He had five birdies in total during his round eight pars to come out on top of all 57 players. Matthew Dietl put together a career-low round of 70 where he had either a par or birdie on the entire front nine to finish in a tie for eighth place. 

The Cardinals are back in action on Tuesday, September 29 for the Susquehanna Fall Invitational at Susquehanna Valley Country Club.
