Catholic Sits in Second After Cardinal Fall Classic First Round

HAGERSTOWN, Md.  – The Catholic men's golf team started off the weekend at the Cardinal Fall Classic on Saturday afternoon at the Black Rock Golf Course. The Cardinals shot a 305 as a team during the first round of the competition to sit in second place out of the nine teams heading into day two.

Matthew Begg put together the best round for the Cardinals on the day as he finished with a 73 which was a career low round for the sophomore. He picked up three birdies on the day on holes one, three and 14 and totaled 11 pars during his round.

Connor Desjardins and Julio Rodas-Rhim each shot 77 on the day to have them sitting in a tie for 15th heading into the second round. Desjardins picked up a pair of birdies on the back nine while Rodas-Rhim had two front nine birdies and also had a stretch of seven consecutive pars during his round on 10-16.

Timothy Cleary and Joe Earley also competed for Catholic and shot a 78 and 79 respectively. Cleary had seven consecutive pars on the front nine while Earley picked up a birdie on hole 16. 

Jack Davenport stole the show while competing on the Catholic 'B' team as his career low round of 71 (-1) put him in a tie atop the leader board for the weekend. In total he had three birdies and 12 pars during his round.

The Cardinals are back at it for the second round of the Cardinal Fall Classic tomorrow with the action beginning at 10 am.
