Cardinals Look Promising Heading into Finals After Placing First in Time Trials and Semis at Dad Vail

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The Catholic women's rowing team returned to the Cooper River to compete in the 87th annual Dad Vail championships. 

In the time trials, the Varsity 8+ boat placed first with their time of 06:36.711. Sadie Mattaliano was the coxswain for the squad with Adelaide Murrey as her stroke and Ellie Tynan in the bow.
Other members included Claudia Hindley (7), Anne Mountcastle (6), Charlotte Fritz (5), Katherine Elizabeth Ma (4), Madelyn Smith (3), and Bridget Robben (2). 

The second Varsity 8+ boat, with Maely Gomez as the coxswain, raced a time of 07:50.091. Giada Mirjah served as the stroke with Marelyn Diaz in the bow. Other members were Maeve Donnelly (7), Clare Gallagher (6), Madelyn Bronson (5), Bernadette Dineen (4), Victoria Recker (3), and Abigail Ampe (2).

Both squads qualified for the semifinals, with the 1V8+ boat in the 1 Semis and the 2V8+ in the 2 Semis. Only the top boat ended up competing in the semifinals in the evening.

The 1V8+ squad, with Mattaliano as the cox, placed first in the semi-finals with their time of 06:56.010. The top three finishers advance to the top final, so after taking first in the semis, Catholic has a chance to win the Dad Vails in back-to-back years. The finals will take place Saturday, May 9th at 12:10 p.m. on the Cooper River.
